Earnt.
Earnt photographs your food and tells you what it costs in exercise. Not “612 calories” — “56 minutes of running, for you”, worked out from your own weight, height, age and sex. A calorie count is an abstraction almost nobody can act on. A number of minutes is a decision you can make standing at the counter, before you buy the thing.
You've earned back 388 kcal.
Pre-release — Earnt is not yet available to download
Earnt is the newest app in the studio and is still in pre-release testing — the camera and Health flows are being verified on real devices first. A Google Play build comes next, with the App Store to follow.
Calories are abstract. Minutes are a decision.
Every figure is anchored to your own resting metabolism rather than a textbook constant, so the same burger genuinely costs a 55 kg person more time than a 95 kg one — the difference most calorie apps quietly flatten away.
Minutes, not calories
The number you can act on, shown where a calorie count would normally sit.
Personalised, properly
Mifflin-St Jeor resting metabolism × MET — your weight, height, age and sex, not a fixed constant.
Point, shoot, logged
Vision estimates the dish, the portion and the macros in a couple of seconds — no searching a database.
0 ways to burn it off
Every activity carries its own MET value from the 2011 Compendium of Physical Activities.
Health sync earns it back
Steps and active energy come in from Apple Health or Health Connect, read-only, and pay the day down.
One swap, not a scolding
Where there's a genuinely better version of the same meal, Earnt names it once and moves on.
Your photos stay on your phone
A meal photo is sent once for analysis and never stored by us. Your log, your profile and your images live on the device.
Net burn, not flattering maths
You'd have burned the resting portion sitting on the sofa, so Earnt reports only the extra. Longer numbers, honest ones.
What does it actually cost you?
This is the app's own calculation, running here in the page — resting metabolism from Mifflin-St Jeor, scaled by each activity's MET value, reported net of the energy you'd have burned anyway. Change the body and watch the same meal get cheaper or dearer.
Mifflin-St Jeor BMR ÷ 1440 × (MET − 1) — the same calculation the app ships.
Calorie figures are from each manufacturer's published nutrition data for the standard preparation and vary by region and size. Earnt gives estimates for general information — it is not medical, nutritional or clinical advice. See the disclaimers for the full position.
